Millennium from AIR software is an "unsung hero" among astrology programs. Its authors have eschewed the beaten path, i.e. instead of creating a professional astrology program filled with standard features, they've invented new and unique tools for exploring prediction and natal work. For example, Alphee Lavoie pioneered the "Time Tunnel", an incredibly powerful graphical ephemeris in circular form, and developed powerful sets of modeling tools for both natal and predictive work.

Version 7's new tabbed interface makes it easier to navigate the various core techniques and functions available by neatly grouping them in four separate categories: data, table, timing, and more.

You can also now easily save any screen as a BMP, JPEG, or GIF image file, print it, or copy it to the clipboard (and specify the picture size).

The historical statistical analysis module, you choose a beginning and ending date and a sample size (i.e. how many days to include) and what points to use and what aspect orb and harmonic to use, and whether to use Geocentric or Heliocentric coordinates, and the program calculates the frequency of each of the aspects, e.g. what percent of trines vs. sextiles vs. squares and also for each specific planetary pair and each aspect, what percent of days the aspect occurred, e.g. 15.25% conjunctions between the Sun and Mercury, and also gives the total number of days where each aspect occurs.

The Aspects Strengths feature finds three planet aspect patterns for a user-specified interval (from one month to 100 years) and starting date. It shows the date and time when each pattern occurs, and the orb for each of the three aspects comprising the pattern. You can specify which points to use, what the aspect orb is, the precision (to the nearest minute or second of clock time). You can also immediately see the chart for any of the patterns (and quickly move through the entire set of events) and make any chart into a natal or transiting chart.

The new Eclipse module has many valuable features. After calculating a set of events, it shows the degree of and type of eclipse, and where on the World map the eclipse is visible. You can specify a starting year and number of eclipses, copy any event to a transit chart, and specify the minimum coverage. This module is pioneering in two major ways: First, it fulfills a wish I have had for a long time, it can calculate, list and display on the map Lunar Eclipses, which no other astrology program before this has done. Secondly, it can also calculate, list and display on the map Lunar occultations of planets and other points, i.e. when the body of the Moon will actually cover another body.

Alphee's Path to God examines all of the aspects in each of the first eight harmonics and shows which harmonic has the greatest number of aspects.

Version 7 also is enhanced in subtler ways. For example, one can now see a graph (in the Astronomy Technique module) of the distance of Chiron from the Sun for a user-specified time range. (Since Chiron's orbit is so elliptical, this may be very relevant in its interpretation.)

Perhaps the best addition to Millennium 7.1 is its incredibly comprehensive set of tutorial videos. Virtually every feature of the program has a video describing how to use it. It is now easy to understand and learn to use all of the great predictive tools in the program. Bravo!

Millennium StarTrax 6.0

by Alphee Lavoie and Sergey Tarasov

Price of Add-on & Standalone Modules $199 each

Millennium Star Trax is essentially a very powerful set of astrological tools for the computer-savvy professional Western astrologer. It runs on Window 95, 98, ME, NT, XP, and 2000 systems, and is accurate and amazingly fast in its calculations. (Note: If you are running Millennium on an older computer running Window 95 or 98, I recommend starting Millennium after closing all open programs.)

The add-ons (designed to be run by themselves) include:

1. Father Time, an electional program which can find the best times for different actions. 2. Nostradamus, which answers your questions according to the rules of horary.

3. SuperSearch, a powerful tool for searching for dates when planets or points enter any sign or house or degree range, or station, change direction, speed up or slow down or reach a specific speed. SuperSearch will also find the dates when points form specific aspects or any angle to another point, reach aphelion, perihelion, or either node, enter a specific phase, or participate in Grand Trines or T-Squares, as well as when transiting (or progressed, etc.) midpoints aspect a transiting or natal point or vice versa.

4. Neural Net, which finds the commonalities within groups of charts and can then evaluate additional charts to see how close they match the original groupís patterns.

5. Rectification, which enables you to analyze a range of important dates in a personís life to determine likely birth times.

6. StarTrax Locality Map. A.I.R. Software has created an excellent and innovative set of astro-mapping tools. Many of the standard capabilities provided by other mapping software are improved upon here. For example, the depiction of eclipses on maps is the best Iíve seen, and indicates the exact amount of coverage for any location, and has the ability to view multiple eclipses on one maps. You can instantly view a Local Space or Relocated chart for any point on a map. Not only do you get the standard Paran listing, but you can see Paran points on Asc/Desc and MC/IC lines, and view or print out a very extensive and well written interpretive report that indicates which cities are closest to each Paran and map line. StarTrax Locality Map includes an ďOptimal Place FinderĒ that shows the best places for love, work, or education (with more theme to come) and the ability to show lines for transits, returns, direct and converse secondary, tertiary, and minor progressions and solar arcs, and profections.

Iíd like to mention a couple of small problems before focusing on Millenniumís many strengths. While the default house system, zodiac, fonts, dignities, and aspect set can be set once and retained (so you can use them again the next time you run the software), in several of the programís modules the settings are not retained. This may seem trivial until you have to re-select all of those settings over and over again. For example, if you want to view a transit calendar, you have to select the transiting planets, natal planets, aspects used, ingresses, and the planets that change direction every time you enter the program.

The routine of entering a new person's birth data is a also little labored. You have to mouse click on each field because TABbing doesn't move you to the right ones, and if you try to enter the city and state name in the provided fields, the program doesn't look up the time zone. You have to go into their atlas and then mouse click to select first the country, then the state, then the city, and then must click on the city name and OK to get the settings into the data entry screen. As of yet, Millennium cannot access the full ACS atlas, only the built-in ACS mini-atlas, which means that you will have to enter data manually for cities not included. To learn how to use Millennium, and to get the most out of the program, youíll definitely want to read the manual carefully. There is a lot more to Millennium than meets the eye. While there is no online manual or context-sensitive help, Millennium does have built-in animated tutorials which show you how to use several of the programís functions.

For astrologers who like looking at charts in different coordinate systems, Millennium is great. For any wheel or bi-wheel, you can instantly switch between seeing them in geocentric longitude, geocentric latitude, heliocentric, right ascension, declination, and sidereal coordinates. This means that you can see transiting planets, for example, around a birth chart in their standard geocentric longitude positions, and then immediately switch to seeing which transiting planets are forming parallels of declination with natal planets. You quickly change coordinate systems in most parts the program. For relocation work, the software offers Local Space charts, with or without aspect lines. It also introduces a totally new method of charting called Topocentric Charts (not to be confused with the Topocentric house system). Topocentric charts show a true picture of the natal planets on the plane passing through the birthplace instead of the usual ecliptic place, and as a result, the degree positions of the planets change, as do their angular separation from each other (and therefore aspects).

You can select (and de-select) a wide range of points to use in many of Millenniumís modules -- in natal charts and in any of the predictive techniques -- including the planets, Moonís nodes, Chiron, the four major asteroids, the pre-natal or post-natal eclipse, pre-natal lunation, any house cusp, the White Moon and Black Moon, any planetary picture (A +/- B +/- C +/- any degree), the Part of Fortune, the Part of Saturn, Proserpine, East Point, and Vertex. Turning the points on or off, and choosing whether to show aspects to them, is fast and simple. Defining completely new aspects is easy and well implemented in Millennium. You can choose a name, color, symbol, exact angle, and orb for as many new aspects as you wish, and also define as many different aspects sets as you like (to use for different purposes).

Millennium also offers 24 aspects you can use in the program, including the major aspects, quincunx, semisextile, semisquare, sesquare, quintiles, antiscion and contra-antiscion, parallel and contra-parallels, noviles, and 18, 20, 22.5, 36, and 100 degree aspects. The program thoughtfully allows you to set the orbs for every aspect individually for each planet, and you can create as many aspect sets as you wish.

For those who use Arabic Parts, the software offers a listing of about 100 parts, plus a chart display where you can see any specific Part's position in the chart and aspects to the other points.

One innovative feature of the software is the ability, while viewing a bi-wheel with transiting, progressed, profected, directed, or solar arc planets around a natal chart, to drag one of the current planets to a natal point, and immediately see the chart for when that planet will next conjunct the natal oneís position. The creator of Millennium thoughtfully provides an Undo button, so that after youíve explored the charts/dates for several conjunctions, you can step backwards through each chart and return to the date you started with.

In Millenniumís chart animator, you set the beginning and ending date for the animation, the interval for each step (there are 15 choices from 10 seconds up to 10 years) and then either manually step forward or backwards in time or have the software animate the chart for you. In either case, you get to watch the planets in the outer wheel move around the chart and form aspects to the natal points. Unlike other programs, the software draws in both applying and separating orb aspects, instead of just applying ones.

The Calendar is a very useful feature unique to Millennium. You can create monthly calendars for any personís chart, showing exact transits to natal points, ingresses into signs and houses, planetary directional changes (direct to retrograde and vice versa), and transits to transits. Challenging transits (e.g. squares) are shown in red, and easy ones (e.g. trines) in green.

In addition to both the standard horizontal and a unique vertical graphic ephemeris that offer transit-to-natal and transit-to-transit graphs in any harmonic or modulus angle, Millennium adds an enhanced version of their unique predictive tool: the Time Tunnel. The Time Tunnel is essentially a circular graphic ephemeris which shows the movements of the planets (from the rim of the circle to the center) for a specific time period. What makes this new enhanced Time Tunnel so valuable is the ease with which you can see intersections between the natal positions and the lines for transits, progressions, etc. (which are very important times in the personís life) and that you can use any of Millenniumís predictive techniques individually or in any combination.

No other software lets you see convergences of (both forward and converse) profections, progressions, transits, directions, and solar arcs all at the same time. You can set Time Tunnel to show predictive to natal aspects or predictive to predictive (e.g. transit to transit, progressed to progressed, etc.), and can also instantly switch between different coordinate systems (e.g. geocentric longitude, declination, Sidereal, etc.) in the Time Tunnel.

The Planetary Picture Analyzer shows you all of the aspects -- within whatever orb you set -- for a specified date and time, that are made by planetary pictures (three point combinations like Sun Ī Moon Ī +/- Venus) to a person's natal points. You can also search future dates for transiting stellia (planets conjunct in the sky within a user-specified number of degrees) or major chart patterns (Grand Trines or T-Squares -- called Grand Squares in the program -- and triangles of 120-60-180 or 60-60-120), and instantly view a chart for any of the dates found. Millennium is filled with nice touches. You can quickly see, for instance, images of the phases of all of the planets (not just the Moon). Until Millennium, there was no way to know what the phase of each of your planets was; now we can begin to explore their meanings. The Natal Information panel shows the proportions of several factors in the natal chart including zones, elements, modes, quadrants, hemispheres (by both sign and house), fixed star aspects, and rulerships by sign, face, and degree. The Tables include an angular separation/aspect grid, and an innovative Active Degree table that shows each degree of the zodiac that aspects the planets and points you use.

The Rising and Culminating screen thoughtfully lets you switch between seeing times of mundane risings, and zodiacal risings (e.g. times of conjunctions to the Ascendant, M.C. etc). The Daily Angles function not only shows you the transiting aspects to any points for any date (or set of days), but also allows you to set an alarm to alert you when a specific new event (ingress, transit-to-transit, transit-to-natal) happens or is about to happen (within whatever orb you specify).

The Astronomy section not only shows a table of every planet's position by geocentric longitude, latitude, right ascension, declination, velocity, and distance from Earth, but allows you to instantly see nice graphs of the changing values for any planet for any time period for any of these coordinates. Pointing to any place on a graph shows you the exact date and value for that moment. (You can also save any graph as an image file.)

Millennium's Essential Dignity screen draws lines (like aspect lines) between pairs of planets if they are (by sign or house) in mutual reception by rulership, exaltation, or a mixture of rulership and exaltation. You can optionally view the aspects in the chart. The Planetary Hours option shows you the planetary day, and the planetary hours for a 24 hour period calculated either from midnight to midnight or sunrise to sunrise.

Many programs allow you to search your chart files for natal factors, and Millennium is no exception. Its Statistic function shows you a graph of the people in your file who have any planet in specific signs and houses or elements and modes (by signs and houses), as well as an aspect grid that tallies the number of times (between each pair of planets) a specific aspect occurs.

Millennium's Chart Filtering (whole file search) functions go way beyond every other program. While you can search for charts that have a natal planet in a specific aspect to other point(s), (and immediately view any chart that fulfills the search), you can also search for dynamic events -- using any of the predictive methods within the software -- that affect anyone in the chart file, for any date.

This is an incredibly valuable tool. For example, you could search for everyone who has their secondary progressed Sun or Venus in an aspect (or set of aspects) to their natal Venus or Sun. The software quickly finds everyone who meets your criteria, and then allows you to pop-up a new window showing a bi-wheel of the dynamic event around the natal chart, with aspect lines, and with tables of the natal and dynamic planetary positions and inter-aspects. You can not only search for dynamic to natal points, but also dynamic to dynamic events for each chart such as tertiary progressed Moon squared Solar Arc directed Chiron!

The Phenomena Finder allows you to similarly investigate future events for individual natal charts. Select a starting date, then choose the type of event you want to track: dynamic aspects, sign ingresses, changes in direction, and aspects to and from transiting and natal midpoints. You can again use any of the dynamic techniques, any points, and any aspect or set of aspects. The program calculates all of the dates that meet your criteria rapidly, and then lists them and can show a chart wheel instantly for any of the dates.

Likewise, you can use the Circle Charts tool to choose to create a series of ten Solar Returns, Lunar Returns for the year, Solar Phase Returns for the year, Moon Phases for the Month, Solar Ingresses into signs or natal houses for the year, Moon ingresses by house or sign for the current month, diurnal charts for a month, or any series of Solar eclipses. The Solar Eclipse finder is particularly interesting, in that you can select any range of years, a minimum degree of coverage (e.g. half the Sun eclipsed or more) for any specific location.

One of the "crown jewels" in the treasure box of Millennium predictive techniques is the Dynamic Astrology module. Here you can create a graph, for any specified time period, of the cumulative effects of all of the dynamic events going on during that period. You can select the strength (weighting) of each aspect, each transiting and each natal point (e.g. give the Sun 3 points if natal but only 1 point as a transiting planet), and give more weight to natal and/or transiting planets traversing particular signs or houses, or ruling particular houses. In other words, you can create transit graphs that show the overall intensity of all of the positive and challenging aspects occurring during any time period. I love this feature!

You can also run any of the predefined graphs in Millennium's Black Box. This enables you to look at the varying good and inopportune times for money, career, work, sex, friends, enemies, home, love, partners, and even earthquakes! (Note: for the advanced user, there is an undocumented program: hyped.exe that allows you to create your own black box definitions, as well as to edit Millenniumís.)

Millennium Star Trax offers more unique predictive techniques than any other program. Instead of providing users with the same tools as other programs (it doesnít include, for example, a collated listing of entering-exact-leaving events), it offers astrologers pioneering new methods of charting and forecasting. Millennium provides us with enough tools to keep us exploring for a long, long time.
